The Special Edition is full of Cut-Out Pages and stories from inspiring collage artists. The printed magazine also includes an interview with World Collage Day 2024 Poster Artist Ali AlShaikh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

World Collage Day 2024 Poster Artist<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kolaj Magazine<\/em> is pleased to announce the 2024 World Collage Day Poster artist is Bahraini collagist Ali AlShaikh. The artist writes, “As an artist, my work is an exploration of myth, space, and outer worlds, utilizing themes of dystopia, nostalgia, and the human experience. Through the medium of hand-cut collage, I try to create surreal imagery that delves into the complexities of identity and the ways in which people, nations and their folklore have constructed their sense of self.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collage, Beehouse<\/em>, which appears on the poster was inspired by a hive the artist found in one of his palm trees. He writes, “It was dark and shoved in a corner.  I saw this pattern that had a texture of mud caking on a paper and I thought, if someone opened earth and looked at it the same way we look at beehives, Will they see us milling about and going on our own ways with clear missions in mind? We tend to be a bit more casual, a bit more relaxed, and a bit more lenient with how we spend our time. Our universe would be more colorful and more fluid with the different color shades of Earth.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The World Collage Day Poster is free for anyone to download and use to promote World Collage Day and events in one\u2019s community. Click HERE to download a high-resolution pdf suitable for printing on a 17″x11″ (appox. 43 x 28 cm) piece of paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previous World Collage Day poster artists were American artist Michael Paj\u00f3n<\/a> (2018), Canadian artist Rosie Schinners<\/a> (2019), Australian artist Emma Anna<\/a> (2020), Colombian collage collective Red Collage<\/a> (2021), American artist Erin McCluskey Wheeler<\/a> (2022), and Irish artist Anthony D Kelly<\/a> (2023). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABOUT WORLD COLLAGE DAY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 2018, Kolaj Magazine<\/em> initiated World Collage Day, an international celebration of collage on the Second Saturday of May. We invited artists and art venues to hold events on that day to celebrate collage. We saw fifty events in twenty-five countries and thousands of posts on social media using the hashtag, #worldcollageday. The succeeding years, the event continues to grow.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kolaj Magazine<\/em> invites artists, art centres, museums, galleries, schools, and communities to celebrate the day by hosting events that bring communities together. Ideas include collage making meet-ups, docent-led tours of collage in a museum or gallery, activities for kids, slideshows or talks that appreciate collage\u2019s role in contemporary art & art history, exhibitions of collage, and more.
