It introduces the audience to the work of artists from around the world–from Japan, through Germany and Portugal, to Latin America. A diverse range of personalities is represented, drawing from a rich array of influences: from local artistic traditions, through Dadaist experiments in the spirit of Kurt Schwitters, to contemporary independent publications in grunge style.

Nearly 200 objects are on display in the over 500-square-meter space of the University of Warsaw Library Gallery, including original, hand-crafted collages, art zines, art books, and digital collages. Work is by thirty-five artists from fourteen countries and twelve independent publishers.

artbook by Ankie van Dijk. Simultaneously, it reflects the organizers’ aspirations to establish a future biennial event dedicated to book art and other art forms that combine the written word with visual art. Art books, particularly art zines, represent a phenomenon that often escapes the standard library perspective. Perhaps, as communication increasingly shifts into the digital realm, it may lead to a renewed appreciation for the tangible nature of books and other publications, expressed through artistic creations–whether as art books developed within the curriculum of art schools or as underground, countercultural zines. This is a phenomenon that libraries should closely follow.

The exhibition was curated by Anna Kłos, PhD and Miguel Correia and organized by the University of Warsaw Library Promotion Department and Retroavangarda

(text adapted from material provided by the curators and organizers)

INFORMATION

University of Warsaw Library Gallery
Dobra 56/66
Warsaw 00-312, Poland
+48 (22) 55 25 178

Hours:
Wednesday-Sunday, 2-7PM

MAP | WEBSITE | FACEBOOK

COLLAGE ON VIEW Adhesions: International Exhibition of Collage in Artbooks and Artzines at the University of Warsaw Library Gallery in Warsaw, Poland14 November 2024-19 January 2025 “Adhesions” aims to showcase a broad spectrum of collage techniques used by artists working…

[11
collage by Antonio Martin Ferrand (Spain); 2020.
