He explores figuration and the tradition of classical painting through a selection of recent works or pieces created specifically for his exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo. Curated by Daria de Beauvais, the paintings, costumes and textiles are showcased in an original scenography inspired by the architecture of the Palais Sans Souci in Haiti and accompanied by a sound piece by poet and music producer Mike Ladd. The exhibition offers a comprehensive and generous narrative, blending the real and the fictional, and bringing together the artist’s different areas of research by proposing a renewal of imaginaries.

Déboulé céleste by Raphaël Barontini
Performance produced as part of Nuit Blanche 2024, an event organized by the City of Paris; 2024. Published in 1963, it explores the challenges faced by the Haitian people in building a new nation after the struggle against slavery and French colonization in the late 18th century. It focuses on the complex figure of Henri Christophe, general of the Haitian revolution and self-proclaimed king, who built the Palais Sans Souci. The title also evokes the joy that the power of the collective can bring, in every culture.

(text adapted from material provided by the gallery)

INFORMATION

Palais de Tokyo
3 Avenue du Président Wilson
75116 Paris, France
+33 1 81 97 35 88

Hours:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Noon-10PM
Thursday, Noon-Midnight
Saturday-Sunday, Noon-10PM

MAP | WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM

COLLAGE ON VIEW Somewhere in the Night, the People Dance at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, France21 February-11 May 2025 Artist Raphaël Barontini offers a reinterpretation of history, particularly African and Caribbean, by presenting dynamic and fluid narratives that blend…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[11

post-16363","post","type-post","status-publish","format-gallery","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-collage-exhibitions","post_format-post-format-gallery
http://kolajmagazine.com/content/wp-content/uploads/raphael-barontini-a-la-cour-d-henri-christophe.jpg
A Dance for the End of the World by Audrey Guttman17.7"x13.8"; collage on paper; 2021.
