In her first show in Portland at Gallery 6 PDX, Toronto artist Margaret Glew reaches outside of her comfort zone of large, swirling, colour-loaded canvases to dive into the challenges of smaller works on paper–painted boldly and hand torn.

Glew says, “Different materials equals different process: somehow that process (tearing paper, moving it around, etc.) causes me to see relationships, colours, shapes, in a new way. The perception of what is possible changes. The process feels different too; it’s interesting how much the materials alter my perceptions.”

(adapted from the gallery’s press materials)

INFORMATION

Gallery 6 PDX
131 NE 6th Avenue
Portland, Oregon 97232 USA
(503) 206-7280

Hours:
Friday-Sunday, Noon-5PM or by appointment (call (503) 297-4262)
Artist reception during First Friday, 5-8PM

MAP | WEBSITE | FACEBOOK

Image:
untitled
by Margaret Glew
19″x25″
Courtesy of the artist and Gallery 6 PDX, Portland, Oregon

4-27 October 2013

In her first show in Portland at Gallery 6 PDX, Toronto artist Margaret Glew reaches outside of her comfort zone of large, swirling, colour-loaded canvases to dive into the challenges of smaller works on paper–painted boldly and hand torn.

[11
1 November-1 December 2013 "It's Been Surreal": Sherry Parker, Deborah Hayner, Terry Flowers, and Fred Free Gallery 6 PDX invited four collage artists currently working in the surreal style to give a peek into their imagined worlds.
