Margaret Glew: “Torn & Painted Collages”<\/p>\n

When an artist creates work outside of their usual scale, medium or materials, the possibilities abound for new insights and expansion. In her first show in Portland at Gallery 6 PDX, Toronto artist Margaret Glew reaches outside of her comfort zone of large, swirling, colour-loaded canvases to dive into the challenges of smaller works on paper–painted boldly and hand torn.<\/p>\n

Glew says, “Different materials equals different process: somehow that process (tearing paper, moving it around, etc.) causes me to see relationships, colours, shapes, in a new way. The perception of what is possible changes. The process feels different too; it’s interesting how much the materials alter my perceptions.”<\/p>\n
