“Keepsake” plays with the parallels found between the artist collecting for creative inspiration and the tourist collecting souvenirs as a reminder of place. The exhibition showcases the work of 10 artists from the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales, Australia<\/p>\n

Just as artists (and tourists) travel to the Blue Mountains to capture the stunning views and magnificent landscape, travel to other places is key to the creative process of many of the artists who live and work here.<\/p>\n

The objects, photographs, paintings and drawings in the exhibition capture moments in time and serve as windows into the past–making a narrative that links then and now into a single, precise keepsake. The images and stories unfold like a concertina, a chain of events from childhood through holidays, landscapes, special moments, everyday activities and rituals. “Keepsake” becomes, like its subject and object, a celebration of memories and translations of place.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike film stills, the ‘Keepsake’ artworks all tell a story \u2013 stories of travel, holidays, childhood, special moments, and discovery\u201d says Rilka Oakley, Curator, Blue Mountains Cultural Centre.<\/p>\n

Artists include David Brazil, Elaine Campaner, Di Holdsworth, Ona Janzen, Mathew Lynn, Judith Martinez, Brad Moore, Janelle Randall-Court, Wendy Tsai and Kayo Yokoyama.<\/p>\n
