St-Pierre carefully looked over hundreds of archival documents and selected the primary material for the collages, which interpret the work of Newfoundland and Labrador women during the First and Second World Wars. The Rooms\u2019 press materials state, \u201cBy cutting out fragments of history from archival sources, and blending the two time periods, [St-Pierre\u2019s] collages operate like a metaphor for the disruption that occurs during wartime, and the lives torn in the context of these moments of strong cultural tension and social transition.\u201d Tanya St-Pierre, originally from Gatineau, Quebec, lives and works in Sherbrooke, Quebec. She holds a BFA from the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivi\u00e8res and has shown work and attended artist residencies in Quebec, Ontario, the U.S., and Mexico.
