How to World Collage Day 2019<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“Part of what makes collage unique in the art world today is the enthusiastic, dedicated, friendly group of people who come together as a community. In the past six years of publishing Kolaj<\/em>, we have seen countless collaborations, group exhibitions, meet-ups, and events,” writes Editor Ric Kasini Kadour<\/a> in Kolaj<\/em> #22<\/a>. “On a regular basis we witness dialogue and a spirit of cooperation and care for one another. Sometimes the art world can be cold, competitive, money-driven, and frankly inhumane. But in this corner of it where artists hang out and make and share collage, we often find the opposite. We think that is awesome and we think the rest of the world should know about it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We created World Collage Day<\/a> because we wanted to honour this community of artists and to remind the world what a spirit of cooperation, mutual support, and creativity can look like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To celebrate collage, Kolaj Magazine<\/em> declared the second Saturday of May to be World Collage Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We invite artists, art centres, museums, galleries, schools, and communities to celebrate the day by hosting events that bring communities together. Ideas include collage making meet-ups, docent-led tours of collage in a museum or gallery, activities for kids, slideshows or talks that appreciate collage’s role in contemporary art & art history, exhibitions of collage, and more. We invite people to come together around collage in their own communities and to connect to the world digitally using the hashtag #WorldCollageDay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOW TO WORLD COLLAGE DAY<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Step One: Find a Space<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you don’t have your own space, reach out to a partner who does. These can be galleries, libraries, cafes, bars, museums, or community centres. Work with the space to determine a time on May 11th to hold the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Two: Define an Activity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ideas include collage making meet-ups, docent-led tours of collage in a museum or gallery, activities for kids, slideshows or talks that appreciate collage’s role in contemporary art & art history, exhibitions of collage, and more. See 2018 events to get ideas<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Three: Submit Your Event<\/a> to Kolaj Magazine<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

HERE<\/a> you will find a helpful tool that gathers all the information we need to promote your event on our end. The form asks you for Event Title, Start & End Time, Organization name, the Name of the Venue name and address, contact information for the venue, and minimum of 3-7 sentences about what will happen there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also ask that you submit an image of artwork that we can use to promote the event. Do not send posters or postcards, only artwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will announce your event on the WORLD COLLAGE DAY WEBSITE<\/a> and through our social media. When we receive your event, we will email with some helpful tips and other resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Four: Promote your event locally<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Submit a calendar listing to local newspaper, radio, and television outlets. Announce the event online and through social media and ask other people to share it. Consider drafting a press release and sending it to the media with a request that they report on the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step Five: Enjoy World Collage Day, May 11, 2019<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
