My collages depict Avatars, Mystics, Watchers, Rustic Gods and Goddesses, and Winged Serpents, which symbolize Knowledge. The Avatar came to Earth to restore righteousness. I combined Native American and Hindu motifs because we are all on the same journey. Righteousness is a journey like the salmon in the Fall. Christian Mystics believe there are no strangers. Jewish Mystics believe “Other” is a dangerous word. The Winged Serpent symbolizes powerful duality connecting the earth and the sky, represents transformation, divine power, wisdom, and guardianship across cultures. BIO Andy DeWeerdt graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 1989 and has maintained a working studio since then. In 2011, DeWeerdt moved to Ashland, Oregon, where he worked at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and maintained a studio and sold artwork.
