Carol M. Lynch
Carol M. Lynch STATEMENT My creative process combines my pioneer-spirited West Texas roots and my New Orleans cultural life that brings history and tradition alive, with Mardi Gras thrown in for something extra! Paper and textile collage has influenced most of my current artistic projects. I strive to bring the past into the modern reality. I often incorporate haiku or quotes from books and poems to further elucidate the theme and to stir emotions. What I create differs from piece to piece and is purpose-based. Current issues find reality within my collages. The purpose of the project determines the form it will take and the materials I will need to complete it. Occasionally, I’ll dream of a complete image or subject, such as Ashes to Ashes. When awake, I make or collect the papers to define the fully formed image I dreamt. BIO Carol M. Lynch was raised in a pioneer, musical, conservative, feminist, and West Texas environment. Creativity was defined by purpose and function, with inspiration from the written word. She has continually incorporated collage in the arts and crafts she creates while raising her family in the uniquely creative city of New Orleans since 1991. Now in her sixties, Carol realizes that her life of crafting is art. Since 1998, she has been heavily involved with the Mardi Gras culture of New Orleans, designing, and creating costumes, headpieces, queens’ collars and trains, sequined appliques, invitations, centerpieces, and collage shadow boxes to commemorate the events. For the 2023 Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc parade throw, she distributed a collection of wooden postcard collages depicting Joan of Arc. She was the winner of Joan of Art 2024 with her collage, Ashes to Ashes. As a costume designer since 1979, she has been influenced by the colors and styles of costumes throughout history, designing and sewing commercially. This time in her life is devoted to paper and textile collage and sketching. ARTIST CONTACT IMAGES |
