 8″x8″; vintage magazines, wood, resin; 2023. Charlie Don’t STATEMENT Charlie’s most frequent product is collage on wood panel coated in resin. He also provides collage imagery for Wake the Zine (risograph periodical about arts and music in Galveston, Texas). When he was a child, his first art class involved cutting out pictures from magazines and drawing to “complete the picture”. At the time it seemed ridiculous to him. How was he to draw a photo realistic image with crayons?? Twenty years later, he first observes the difference between today’s magazines and the colors/perspective of an old Life Magazine. This led him to realize he might be able to frame old images in an attractive way to draw attention to them for today’s viewer.
