STATEMENT

“Body of Evidence”: an exhibition of 14 evidence boxes

“Examine a number of recently discovered, long-forgotten boxes each containing evidence
for unsolved mysteries. Laden with hidden meaning and enigmatic clues you are invited to
let your imagination run wild and attempt to solve their dark puzzles.”

BIO

Chuck Scalin is a Emeritus Professor and former Assistant Chair of the Communication Art + Design Department at Virginia Commonwealth University. He lives in Richmond, Virginia.

Chuck earned degrees in graphic design and fine arts from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.

His collage, assemblage, photography, clay and glassworks have been included and received recognition in over 250 juried and invitational exhibitions both in the U.S. and abroad. Works are also included in many public and private collections including the collections of Capital One, McGuire-Woods, Media General, Bank of Virginia, the Virginia Museum of Fine Art, the Muscarelle Museum, and the Bayley Museum.

In 2012, Chuck was awarded his 6th residency at the Cité International des Arts in Paris, France to continue his work on a photography project titled “Unsung View of Paris”. This body of work was exhibited in Paris and also in Richmond.
