Colleen McCulla
Colleen McCulla STATEMENT In late 2012, after a 5 year post BFA hiatus, I found a box of X-ACTO blades that I bought ten years prior with student loan money. With this discovery came the inspiration to start creating art again. Since then, I’ve been working my way through the pack of 500 blades and using old books and magazines to create a growing series of collages that allow me to synthesize the visual stimuli that surround me. My work centres around a daily, intentional creative process. Every day, I sort through old books and magazines, carefully cutting out whatever images catch my eye. I intuitively arrange the compositions before scanning and sharing each piece on social media. Collage allows me to transcend the context of preexisting images and create an often surreal, yet familiar, juxtaposed reality. I’ve created a new collage for over 960 consecutive days. BIO In 2007, I received a BFA in Fibres and Material Studies from The Cleveland Institute of Art. My collage work was featured at SCOPE Miami Beach 2014 and chosen as the winner of the “SCOPE MOO Creativity Squared Award.” In May 2015, I had a solo show at the Rollins & Welker Studio in Kettering, Ohio. I currently live and work in Dayton, Ohio. ARTIST CONTACT [click to email] IMAGES
