 24″x24″; collage on wood panel Jessie Laura STATEMENT Working primarily with paper, my recent work is a reflection of my interaction with the city and nature. I spend my time collecting impressions from busy streets, panoramic views of open landscapes and convey the sensations they produce on me through collage. My process demands observation and meticulous paper manipulation; using clarity and simplicity as my visual language, I strive to generate the maximum effect on the viewer—sensations and emotions—with minimal media. BIO Jessie Laura (born 1987 in Lima, Peru) is a mixed media artist and art director based in California. Influenced by the contrast of nature and architectural structures, her collage work features geometric and organic compositions that create depth, texture, and movement. Furthermore, abstraction through form, light, and shadow allows her to respond to and engage with contemporary culture’s onslaught of visual imagery. Laura graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design. In 2015, Jessie moved to New York City where she enrolled in Film School at School of Visual Arts.
