I begin with sorting through materials–poring through images, patterns and textures until I find the ones that speak both to me and to each other. Oftentimes it starts as a meditation on an idea, a place, or a memory. I don’t look for specific images, but let the images reveal themselves to me. The tactile process of collage allows me to explore new worlds, relationships, and emotions without the use of the written word. BIO Kat Cook is an educator, artist, explorer, and lifelong learner. She brings all of these things into her artwork, in which she is mostly self-taught. As a part-time artist, she has participated in small shows across New Mexico, and her work Faith was purchased by the Doug + Laurie Kanyer Art Collection in 2022. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University in History and Russian, and a Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education from the University of New Mexico. So far her journey has taken her from Albuquerque to New Orleans, Louisiana, St. Petersburg, Russia, Santa Fe, New Mexico and back again.
