STATEMENT

Unbounded joy expands from the center outward as a reflection on human becoming.

I work in mixed media collage using found papers and artifacts, personal ephemera, paint, fabric, and archetype. My practice begins with the gathering of color, paper fragments, threads, and images on the muddy path of the constant unfolding of being a woman. I weave the stories of the past, of both personal and collective memory, of the land, and of myth with the present moment in service of a soulful future. Through the process of the deconstruction of found fragments and then the painting and reconstruction of them, archetypal symbols and new patterns emerge.

I explore themes of the intricacy and nuance of human relationships—our relationship to Self, to “other”, women’s relationship with nature, and as an animal species, our inherent wildness. In all of these relationships, there are fractals to be found, and patterns interrupted, but stepping back, they all converge in a picture of wholeness. I want to see myself unfold, and in doing so, allow others to see themselves and to be seen.
