STATEMENT

I like working with black-and-white photos from old magazines, even more with archives of various cities (photos of city landscapes and local residents) and creating a new reality through a collage. I do not start from the idea, but from the material and let the collage tell me what it wants to become.

BIO

I was born in a small town in the Moscow region in 1981. I went to kindergarten, school, institute, received an engineering degree, but instead of working in my specialty I retrained as a photographer. I worked for many years as a photographer and photo editor in various media. Then I retrained again, this time I became a movie editor, but at some point my passion for collage consumed me, completely eclipsing everything else.

I founded the Russian collage community “Cut&Glue” (Режь да клей) to develop and promote collage art in Russia in 2015. Now the community geography includes more than 50 cities. One of my main tasks is to help create collage clubs in Russian cities. I share my experience in organizing events and collage practices with those who want to light a collage fire where it is not yet.

During the existence of the community, I held dozens of collage workshops in different cities, organized 3 multi-day collage courses, simultaneous collage sessions for 25 cities, held other various events, gathered a lot of collage artists together on the community website, became the Moscow organizer of the international project The Collage Garden in 2018 and organized and held the first Russian collage festival Cut&Glue FEST (Режь да клей ФЕСТ) in the summer of 2019. The festival lasted a whole month and consisted of a large exhibition of contemporary Russian collage artists and a huge educational program with multi-day courses, one-day workshops and lectures.

Now I am planning the next Russian collage festival and other activities.
