STATEMENT

Collage has been a crucial medium for me for over a decade; mosaic murals I encountered in Istanbul have informed the textures and rhythms of this work. The hue, scale, and depth of individual tiles within a Byzantine mosaic mural create a surface of infinite variety in a relatively shallow space. The structural narrative is drawn as if a graphic novel, with imagery from sources as diverse as Old Masters, science fiction, movie stills and graphic art. I arrange images, then over-paint them to create a distinct and encrusted, web-like world.
