STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My collage paintings address the themes of personal and cultural identity, impermanence, and the beauty of things unconventional. My practice is deeply informed by a life-long case of wanderlust and an intense curiosity about places and people and the ways we change each other, an ineffable transfer of experience. A deep interest in Japanese art, thought, and philosophy has led me to explore the principles of wabi-sabi, which celebrates what is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. My work acknowledges thoughts and ideas about how the continually changing nature of all beings and objects affects the view of oneself and how place and identity are inextricably bound to one another. With an emphasis on process, I create textured surfaces by responding to the changes in the picture as I explore and interact with my materials. Moving between intuition and logic, chaos and order, I reunite and record fragments of thoughts, feelings, and memories. By creating an ephemeral path between internal experiences and external encounters, I ask: Who am I? Who are we?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teri Dryden\u2019s work is informed by extraordinary life experiences that have shaped her aesthetic and worldview. After studying performing arts at Towson University in Baltimore, she traveled as a clown with Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus for two years, lived on a train, performed in every contiguous U.S. state, and gathered thousands of indelible impressions from garish to gorgeous that often found their way from memory to paint and paper. Teri\u2019s collage paintings are included in many private and public collections and have been exhibited in numerous solo, group, and juried exhibitions across the country and internationally. In 2019, she was awarded a professional development grant from the Great Meadows Foundation for her second six week artist residency in Japan, and in 2023, she received another for a residency in Leece, Italy. She is a member of Global Art Project, Women Painters West, Collage Artists of America, and the National Collage Society. She is represented by WheelHouse Art in Louisville, Kentucky, Brandt-Roberts Galleries in Columbus, Ohio, and GDCA in Los Angeles, CA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
