STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I use scissors to cut and glue painted paper and apply it to an acrylic- or oil-painted surface, breathing life into the ordinary and familiar through layering, shadows, color, patterns, and subtle nuances of light and form. My process moves between being spontaneous and being intentional. As I add layers of paint, the brush marks and textures start to stand out. Thick paper creates rhythmic edges when I glue it down, giving each piece more depth and interest. I use pumice and glass beads to make a surface you want to touch. I want to show the beauty in daily life, like fruit, bushes, or a streetlamp shining at night, and reveal what is special in the everyday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michele BonDurant is a mixed-media artist based in Dayton, Ohio. She began as a plein air painter, using oil paints to render the landscape. Several years ago, she was introduced to painted paper collage, and since then, she has dedicated her practice to creating painted, cut-paper collages of still lifes and landscapes. BonDurant earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She has exhibited in solo and group shows in the United States and abroad, including a solo exhibition at Prince Street Gallery in New York City. Select group exhibitions include Hampstead Art Society in the United Kingdom; West End Art Space in Melbourne, Australia; First Street Gallery, Prince Street Gallery, and Blue Mountain Gallery in New York City; the Brand Library in Glendale, California; the Maryland Federation of Art Circle Gallery; The Riffe Gallery and Sarah Gormley Gallery in Columbus, Ohio; and Wright State University, Robert and Elaine Stein Gallery, and the Contemporary Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. Her collages have been featured in Contemporary Collage Magazine<\/em> and Painter\u2019s Tubes Magazine<\/em>, both in the United Kingdom. She has had residencies at the Chautauqua School of Art, Vermont Studio Center, the Arc of Appalachia Artists in Sanctuary, and the London Collage Project in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
