STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m a self-taught analog collage artist creating works that grapple with ideas, policies, and institutions that cause harm to people and threaten this precious planet we call home. I began creating hand-cut collages in 2010, lured by the medium\u2019s low barriers and strong boundaries. The freedom to begin with nothing but a sharp blade, old books, and dependable glue. The limitation of working only with the images available on my bookshelf. The expansiveness of reimagining: old becoming new again. As my dedication to the format has grown over the years, so too has my appreciation for the meandering and unexpected paths taken to arrive at each completed piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, I began using erasure as a means to find words to express my grief following a profound loss. When all my words were lost, I was able to find them on pages written over 100 years ago. My current project, “A Woman\/Passing Through”, blends erasure, collage, and personal essay into a nonlinear work of literary art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jenica Caudill has been a practicing analog collage artist for over ten years. Her works have previously been featured in Salty<\/em>, Borderline Press, and sold into private collections across the country. She is based in Portland, Oregon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
