STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My practice focuses on analogue collage and hand-stitched textiles. I am exploring digital techniques to incorporate into my work across both mediums. Play is an important part of my process. My themes circle around the domestic, the natural world, worlds of whimsy, and environmental issues. The stewardship of our environment and how we care for it are important to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I grew up near inland waterways. The country was flat, the trees large, and the bird life amazing. This continues to influence how I see and observe the world and is often reflected in my work. After time in major cities, I now live in regional New South Wales and work from my home studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Art, lifelong learning, and community are important to me. I am an adjunct research officer at Charles Sturt University and an active member of The Creative Practice Circle\u2014a mix of practicing artists and academics exploring creative practice as research. I am also a member of the Embroiderers Guild of Victoria, an exhibiting textile collective, and an informal collage play group.

The act of making is essential to my well being. Through it, I find a voice to express joy, well being, and distress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donna Caffrey’s practice currently focuses on analogue collage and hand-stitched textiles. She is exploring digital techniques to incorporate her works in both mediums.

Recent solo exhibitions include \u201cA Mirror to the Multiverse,\u201d Hyphen Gallery, Wodonga, 2024, and \u201cBLOOM ROOM\u201d at Gateway Gallery, Wodonga, 2025.

Her collage work has featured in the City of Wodonga Ephemeral Art program in 2022 and 2024.
Donna has participated in both virtual and in-person exhibitions with the Creative Practice Circle in Wagga Wagga, Canberra, and Corowa, and presentations at symposia organised by the group. The thrust of the works relates to environmental issues.

Donna deep-dives into virtual rabbit holes and reaches out to others when researching projects. She undertakes workshops and residencies to further develop her skills, thematic approaches, and artwork. She has undertaken artist residencies in Albury, New South Wales; Oatlands, Tasmania; Hyphen Gallery, Wodonga, Victoria; and was selected to undertake virtual professional development with the Kolaj Institute and The Enso Circle.

Donna\u2019s art practice is essential to her well-being. Through it, she finds a voice for joy, well-being, and distress. She aims to spark connections and conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
