a higher education (above the decline)<\/em> Cory Peeke<\/strong> STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n I\u2019m a collage maker for much the same reason I\u2019m a curator \u2013 I love images. This affection has led me to collect remnant imagery; the largely ignored and seemingly inconsequential bits of ephemera that once had a purpose, still have a presence, but now idle in disuse. I combine, layer, juxtapose, glue, tape and re-contextualize these bits and pieces of detritus in order to reincarnate and recharge them. Through the process of collage these snippets of the past combine to become something both fresh and familiar. They exemplify and explore the duality that is the transient, disposable nature of our culture as well as the necessity to create tradition and solidify a cultural continuity.<\/p>\n BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n Cory W. Peeke was born in Sturgis, Michigan. He received his BFA in Fine Arts from Kendall College of Art and Design and his MFA from the University of Idaho. He has exhibited his work in numerous solo and group exhibits throughout the U.S. and his work was also recently exhibited in “Collage Around the World” at Museu Ara\u00e7atubense de Artes Pl\u00e1sticas in Brazil and the Kaunas Biennial in Kaunas, Lithuania. His work has been published in Mein schwules Auge<\/em> 8 and 11, published by Konkursbuch of Berlin, as well as the L\u2019art du collage au Coeur de la creation<\/em>, Published by P.J. Varet Editions-Musee Artcolle, France, Creative Quarterly’s 100 Best 2013<\/em>, and The Artist Catalogue<\/em> among other publications. His works are included in the permanent collections of Eastern Oregon University, Lockhaven University, Whitman College and the International Museum of Collage, Assemblage and Construction. In addition to his studio practice, he is a contributing writer for the Montreal based magazine Kolaj<\/em>. Cory serves as the Director of the Nightingale Gallery and Associate Professor of Art & Art History at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon.
