STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

My work as an artist is informed by my academic background in religious studies, an enduring interest in the life of the spirit, and a deep reverence for the natural world. In my work, I examine the interconnectedness of all life and the vulnerability we all share. I\u2019m interested in the connection between humans, animals, and plants, and the ways that all life forms are entwined. The creatures I create in the studio arise from a blurring of permeable boundaries: those between humans and animals, predator and prey, food seeker and food source, and the human and spirit realms. These “nature morphs” can be seen as mediators between worlds, captured in a moment of transition.<\/p>\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n

Boston-based artist Amy Ross was a religious studies major at Connecticut College and earned a Master\u2019s in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School before enrolling at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Amy’s work is fueled by a lifelong interest in folklore and mythology and a deep reverence for the natural world. In the studio, she looks at flora and fauna through the lens of story and imagination. Amy takes a \u201cmad scientist\u201d approach to art making: she creates fantastical hybrid creatures by morphing together images of humans, animals, and plants.<\/p>\n

Amy has had numerous solo exhibitions, including Jenn Singer Gallery and Jen Bekman Gallery in New York; Overtones Gallery and Kopeikin Gallery in Los Angeles; Allston Skirt Gallery and Steven Zevitas Gallery in Boston; and Walker Contemporary in Vermont. She has shown her work in many group exhibitions, most recently at Clark Gallery in Lincoln, Massachusetts, and Union College in Schenectady, New York. Amy will be a featured artist in The Collage Ideas Book<\/em> (Ilex Press, 2018). Her work is in private and public collections nationwide, including the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, Fidelity Investments, Wellington Management, and Simmons College.<\/p>\n
