STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monaco\u2019s work explores ideas of art history, pop culture, authority, power, and audience. Her most recent works are reinterpretations of iconic “fine art” pieces by male artists throughout art history using the medium of stickers and washi tape. She explores the intersection of pop-culture and fine art using humor and a critical lens. Reinterpreting iconic pieces of the past using media typically marketed to children and women who wish to decorate their journals and day planners, she explores and critiques the work and strips away pretensions of the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lauren Monaco is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Born in Ohio to a creative family, Lauren was always encouraged to make, be it in wood, paint, clay, concrete, fabric, or design. She believes strongly that every person can enjoy creative thinking and the pleasure of making. She graduated from Kent State University with a BFA in sculpture in 2000. She has won several awards for her work and has shown in galleries in Ohio, California, and New York. Her most recent works are collages featuring stickers and washi tape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
