STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

My work is concerned with the whimsical and the unexpected. It employs a dark sense of humour to explore themes of escapism, resourcefulness and First World excess. It contemplates patterns of futility in human activity and challenges the dominant value systems of entitlement and apathy in contemporary Western culture.<\/p>\n

Work submitted is from a new self published book called New Civilizations<\/em>. It features 21 collages created with collected imagery from old magazines and books. The works depict improbable landscapes that integrate modern and ancient architecture. They depict figures engaged in ambiguous activities of construction and destruction suggesting a state of flux.<\/p>\n

New Civilizations<\/em> negotiates feelings of optimism and hopelessness at a time of paramount challenge to human societies. The first edition of 250 was launched through the Eyelevel Gallery in Halifax in March of 2012.<\/p>\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chris Foster graduated from Nova Scotia College of Art & Design University (NSCAD) \u00a0in 2007. He now lives in the North End of Halifax working in illustration, printmaking and installation.<\/p>\n

He is currently busy with three self publishing projects, screen printing a new body of work and co-producing the third issue of a quarterly publication called the PERIODICAL PROJECT<\/em> that promotes Halifax-based emerging artists.<\/p>\n
