Depth Chambers: Augmented Collage Spatial Studies <\/em>presents over eighty augmented collage spatial studies, also known as “depth chambers”, created at collaborative, community collage-making workshops, led by Clive Knights, over many years. Each collage is created by eight participants who each contribute a single fragment in a staged roundtable process to collectively construct an imagined interior setting. The final act is to add tonality using charcoal dust to explore effects of chiaroscuro and then synthesize the piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop has been offered nationally to high-schoolers, professional architects, international collage artists, university academics, art students, and the general public, together with its regular deployment in design studio classes with students of architecture at the School of Architecture, Portland State University, where Knights is a professor and was the founding director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
