The poems and college poems reference surrealism as well as the avant-garde or the postmodern and the left-wing democratic movement as a form of resistance against the logic of the capitalist market system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gatza believes our current social climate must grapple with the role of discourse in shaping our perceptions of\u2014and indeed structuring\u2014the world. How we talk about things often re-instantiates challenging systems of power. The hope is that the methodology behind the construction of Gatza’s work encourages readers to consider language\u2014which includes myths and other dominant narratives\u2014as a site wherein power structures might be both simultaneously upheld and resisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
