Virtual Collage Jam

Online

HISTORY

Virtual Collage Jam was founded by Kal Honey with the help of his wife, Kim-Lee Kho, at the outset of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020 in an effort to create online community and focus for their students and fellow artists. They are both art instructors as well as artists.

MISSION

The original goal of VCJ was to give their artistic community a free, weekly event that could give them some social creative connection during the pandemic’s initial lockdowns. Everyone was feeling quite tense and really needed something positive, creative and social. Being free (as opposed to paid classes) was also really important to them to make it available to any and all interested, regardless of economic circumstance.

The evolving goal is to continue providing bi-weekly free events, open to all ages and abilities, to further their collage practices and to foster connections with the wider collage world.

JOIN

To get involved with the group, join them on their free Youtube livestreams and chat along with others or watch past sessions on their Youtube channel. You can sign up to receive reminders via their website and you can request to join their private Facebook Group to share your collages, comments, opportunities, and resources.

VCJ is open to all and even if you can’t join them during their Monday afternoon time slot, you can still watch the recording and post in their Facebook group.

VCJ is interested in expanding their connections with the wider collage world, and as such will both welcome inquiries for possible collaborations and connections and seek out the same.

KEY ACTIVITIES

VCJ hosts a bi-weekly, free, 1.5 hour collage session, live-streamed on YouTube. Sessions are recorded and can be watched after the fact. Each session has an optional prompt for members to respond to: the prompt can be a word or phrase, an image, an opportunity to respond in some way to another group’s call or image, etc.
