COLLAGE EVENT
KAOS, 2nd International Festival of Contemporary Collage
at Layer House and Art District Kranj in Kranj, Slovenia

This summer, the Slovenian city of Kranj hosts another edition of KAOS, the International Festival of Contemporary Collage. Along with an exhibition by over 100 collage artists, there are also two large collage murals by Spanish artist Susana Blasco and French artist Bill Noir. Other invited artists include Tinca Veerman from the Netherlands, Eugenia Conde from Argentina, Marta Živičnjak from Croatia, and Andrej Štular from Slovenia.

The exhibition features works of fifteen selected artists from the freshly published book Collage by Women (Promopress Editions, 2019), exhibitions of collage ‘zines, collage illustrations, movie poster collages, cut-out poetry, and even collage furniture. A special program is dedicated to 49 international artists who were selected from an open call. The exhibitions take place in the medieval Škrlovec Tower, in the Layer House’s gallery spaces, and other spaces in the centre of Kranj. During the first week of the Festival (28 June-5 July), there will be exhibition openings, guided tours, workshops and concerts.
Before the opening, there was a special collaborative artist residency bewtween one collage artist and a band. This year, the collaboration featured Slovenian collage artist Tatjana Kotnik and the band Futurski. The results of the residency during the promotion of the band’s new album “Emotional Tourist” on the opening night, 28 June, in Kranj and on 1 July in Ljubljana under the Prule Bridge at the Klub rečnih kapitanov.
The festival and the exhibition are organized by Carnica Institute and supported by Municipality of Kranj and Ministry of culture in the Republic of Slovenia.
