Ruminations: Our Stories In Paper

at the Helen C. Frederick Gallery, Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, Hyattsville, Maryland, USA
29 August-4 October 2026

“Ruminations” celebrates the possibilities of paper through life-size paper-cast doors embellished with gold leaf, a translucent installation addressing endangered species, printed Chinese papers, custom paper drawings, large-scale pulp paintings, artist books, and other works that combine hand papermaking with print and mixed media.

At Reading Road Studio, artists investigate the material behavior of paper—from fiber and water flow to translucency, pigment absorption, casting, and dimensional construction. “Ruminations” presents paper not simply as a surface, but as an active part of each artist’s process. The works demonstrate how contemporary material experimentation can remain connected to established traditions while creating new forms and narratives.
