For the last two years, James Gortner has been developing a series of paintings based on his relationship with photographer Carolina Palmgren, the symbolism found in the Tarot, and his theories on artistic production. The “Medley” series presents artists working within the genre of collage or assemblage, including artists working both in two and three dimensions. This exhibition encourages viewers to consider the notion that “What you think of collage can always change.”

American artist Matt Bollinger creates narrative collages using cut and pasted paper over which he applies paint to create his scenes. As gallerist Bernard Zürcher says, the work uses aggressive colour as a way to express intense emotion.

Each of V’s collages is a new idea, a new world, a universe. V’s influences include Dada artist Hannah Hoch and famous album cover artist Julian House. During the opening reception on 6 April, the public is invited to take part in an interactive collage which will be permanently installed in the venue. Bring your own glue!
In each issue of Kolaj Magazine, we publish a Cut Out Page where we present imagery from various sources, carefully selected by our team of contributors or occasional guests. We then encourage you, dear reader, to cut out some of these images to create your own collage and send it to us.
After all the entries are in, we pick the one we like the best. For Issue Three, that work is by….
