Non-objective art defines a type of abstract art that is usually, but not always, geometric and aims to convey a sense of simplicity and purity. Using paper as her medium and muse, Aimée is able to improvise and work with fluidity, welcoming chance into her process.

Born in New Orleans, Aimée received her BFA from Louisiana State University, and later studied at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. Her most recent body of work, “Gift Re-Gifted”, is inspired by a present she wrapped and gave to a friend: “Little did I know that when I gave a birthday gift to my friend Teri that I would be the ultimate recipient. I wrapped Teri’s gift as I always do, using recycled, found paper I rescued to use in my practice. This time, I used a Lawn & Leaf bag, double-ply. I was intrigued by the black sans-serif type centered on the top of the package. I pulled out my black paint and used the type as inspiration for a pattern. I was so taken with my idea that I ended up painting the entire wrapped gift!

The Gift by Aimée Farnet Siegel
10″x11″x5.75″; acrylic and found paper, wrapped box; 2022. The pieces I created became the works in “Gift Re-Gifted”. My gift to my friend became a gift to myself. And that’s not all; Teri loved the wrapped package so much that she didn’t want to change it. In fact, she didn’t open it. Instead, she placed it on her mantle next to her cherished keepsakes.
