These universes both fascinate and disturb, marvel and torment, and bewilder while also bringing the viewer back to an ordinary reality. This is what a contemporary cabinet of curiosities does.

Since no society is eternal, the codes of the cabinet of curiosities are intimately linked to those of vanity. Therefore, it is not unusual to be confronted with themes of aging, death and even the afterlife, through images charged with a powerful symbolism that the artists combine with questions of aesthetics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"1119\" src=\"http:\/\/kolajmagazine.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/matt-mifsud-lacoste-skull-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12335\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kolajmagazine.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/matt-mifsud-lacoste-skull-web.jpg 700w, https:\/\/kolajmagazine.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/matt-mifsud-lacoste-skull-web-600x959.jpg 600w, https:\/\/kolajmagazine.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/matt-mifsud-lacoste-skull-web-300x480.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kolajmagazine.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/matt-mifsud-lacoste-skull-web-625x999.jpg 625w, https:\/\/kolajmagazine.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/matt-mifsud-lacoste-skull-web-260x416.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/>
Crocodiles Vanitas<\/em> by Matt Mifsud
7″x4.3″; collage on paper; 2019.
