“It’s Been Surreal”:\u00a0Sherry Parker, Deborah Hayner, Terry Flowers, and Fred Free<\/p>\n

Gallery 6 PDX invited four collage artists currently working in the surreal style to give a peek into their imagined worlds. The Surrealist movement was founded in Paris by a small group of writers and artists who sought to channel the unconscious as a means to unlock the power of the imagination. Andre Breton, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Rene Magritte, and Man Ray were some of the artists attributed for developing the Surrealist style.<\/p>\n

Sherry Parker<\/strong> is a Bay Area artist who originated and curated the 2-year-long project called “EXCOR, Revival of Exquisite Corpse”, which included 34 Northern California artists who collaboratively created 50 EXCORS.\u00a0Deborah Hayner<\/strong> who participated in the EXCOR project, lives in California creating surreal style collages and assemblages.\u00a0Terry Flowers<\/strong> also lives in California and is active in collage collaborations on playing cards and who also creates assemblages.\u00a0Fred Free<\/strong> lives in Massachusetts where he makes books and collages, sometimes leaving them in public spaces for people to discover by serendipity.<\/p>\n
