The fair’s specificity is a way to affirm Montreal’s place in the Canadian contemporary art market.

This year, 44 leading Canadian galleries participated, from which about half made the trip from outside the city. From among this massive amount of art on paper, the Kolaj editorial staff selected three galleries whose work featured collage: Galerie Division (Montreal), Susan Hobbs Gallery (Toronto), and Art Mûr (Montreal).

About Erika Dueck’s untitled work from her “Ephemeral Mind” series, we wrote:

Like the title of the series suggests, Dueck’s work explores the functioning of the mind, depicted here as a balance between harmony and chaos. These fragments or ideas are merely contained into that well organized storage space and spread everywhere, in what might be an apology of the creative process. We often refer to the memory as small drawers containing information that we need to open to recollect and organize ideas. This is precisely the starting point of Dueck’s process to illustrate the often imperceptible nature of our minds.

To read the entire article, purchase a subscription to Kolaj or purchase Issue Nine.

untitled from the “Ephemeral Mind” series by Erika Dueck 14″x16″x14″ paper, cardboard, mirror, light, and mixed media 2014 Art Mûr, Montreal From April 24 to 27, 2014, Montreal’s Contemporary Art Galleries Association (AGAC) presented the 7th edition of its Papier art…

[6
Enigma of the Woodpile by Simon Hughes 38"x58" watercolour, ink, and collage on paper 2014 Galerie Division, Montreal From April 24 to 27, 2014, Montreal's Contemporary Art Galleries Association (AGAC) presented the 7th edition of its Papier art fair, an annual event dedicated to works on all forms of paper.…
https://i0.wp.com/kolajmagazine.com/content/wp-content/uploads/simon-hughes-enigma-of-the-woodpile-at-galerie-division.jpg?resize=350%2C200&ssl=1
https://i0.wp.com/kolajmagazine.com/content/wp-content/uploads/simon-hughes-enigma-of-the-woodpile-at-galerie-division.jpg?resize=350%2C200&ssl=1 1x, https://i0.wp.com/kolajmagazine.com/content/wp-content/uploads/simon-hughes-enigma-of-the-woodpile-at-galerie-division.jpg?resize=525%2C300&ssl=1 1.5x, https://i0.wp.com/kolajmagazine.com/content/wp-content/uploads/simon-hughes-enigma-of-the-woodpile-at-galerie-division.jpg?resize=700%2C400&ssl=1 2x
Box Piece by Axel Lieber 11"x4.75"x6.125" cardboard and wood 2007 Susan Hobbs Gallery, Toronto From April 24 to 27, 2014, Montreal's Contemporary Art Galleries Association (AGAC) presented the 7th edition of its Papier art fair, an annual event dedicated to works on all forms of paper.
