In 2002, she made her way back to her roots and added mixed media artist to her resume.

Katherine’s paintings start out as collages and eventually wend their way to paintings as oil, acrylic, graphite, tape, and Prismacolor pencil are applied to create multi-layered compositions which feature framed elements of traditional painting within a geometric tableau imbued with the character of the vintage papers and ephemera she collects. The contrast of the vintage elements within a field of contemporary shapes and colours creates a uniquely personal statement.

Katherine was born in Long Beach, California and attended college at California State University at Long Beach. Following college, she worked in San Francisco, Los Angeles and finally, Lake Oswego, Oregon, where she has lived since 1992 with her husband, Kevin and two daughters. Katherine recently created a blog, katherinemeadmodern, which documents her life as a creative and artist.

(text adapted from materials provided by the gallery)

INFORMATION

Gallery 6 PDX
131 NE 6th Avenue
Portland, Oregon 97232 USA
(503) 206-7280

Hours:
Friday-Sunday, Noon-5PM or by appointment (call (503) 297-4262)
Artist reception during First Friday, 6-8PM

MAP | WEBSITE | FACEBOOK

Image:
Field + Frame #1
by Katherine Mead
12″x12″
oil, acrylic, graphite, and tape over collage on board
Courtesy of Gallery 6 PDX, Portland, Oregon

7-30 November 2014 Katherine Mead: “Field + Frame: Contemporary Landscapes”, mixed media painting Katherine Mead entered college as a fine arts major, eventually landing in design, where she embarked on a thirty-year career as an interior architectural, graphic, lighting and furniture…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[11

post-3336","post","type-post","status-publish","format-gallery","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-collage-exhibitions","post_format-post-format-gallery
"The Silver Lining": Meredith Remz 7 June-7 August 2016 Meredith Remz is known for drawing inspiration from contemporary and industrial design, as well as Mother Nature.
