D\u00e9irdre Kelly: “Map Room”<\/p>\n

SG Gallery presents for the first time, SOURCE: Islands of the Venetian Lagoon<\/em>, numbered 1-188 with texts from Italo Calvino. Made up of 188 images, collage & watercolour on paper, each work traces an island and re-floats it in its own new lagoon; thus emphasizing the tension between land and water which is an intrinsic part of daily life in Venice.<\/p>\n

D\u00e9irdre Kelly manipulates cartography to create her own personalized maps, oscillating between land and water. Maps are tools that provide the means by which we both organize and locate ourselves within a continually changing world. These “altered” maps live in the magical world of wonder encapsulated in hand-drawn maps and atlases of the past. There is a human need and desire for physical maps, now more than ever.<\/p>\n

D\u00e9irdre Kelly lives and works in London and Venice. Her works are in private and public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art Library in New York, Tate Gallery Library in London, and Reuters & Sedgewick Group International.<\/p>\n
