Spotlight on Collage Artist Trading Card Artist\u00a0Daniela Akerblom<\/h2>\n

“Using elements and images which I find in our everyday lives, I try to recreate something which most everyone will be able to connect to and understand. Many of these images have direct links to my life and experiences. I believe that we all share similar feelings and experiences, struggles, joys and sorrows,” writes Montreal artist Daniela Akerblom about her collage work.<\/p>\n

Daniela Akerblom was featured in Collage Artist Trading Cards, Pack 5<\/a>. We asked her some questions about her work.<\/h2>\n

Who are you? How do you describe yourself?<\/strong><\/p>\n

AKERBLOM: I was born in\u00a0Montreal and if I didn’t become a visual artist, I would have liked to have become a rock singer or guitarist, if I had any musical skills, or an archaeologist, as I enjoy digging things up from the past. My mantra is from Edgar Degas, “Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” I’m easygoing yet pragmatic, cynical yet passionate, young at heart yet \u201cmature\u201d. My greatest fear is running out of ideas and inspiration.<\/p>\n

AKERBLOM:\u00a0I was younger and having a lot more sex than I am now, and that sorta got the juices flowing (pun intended).<\/p>\n

How did you make this\u00a0work?<\/strong><\/p>\n

AKERBLOM:\u00a0I made it using\u00a0with a pair of scissors, lots of cutouts that I\u2019ve accumulated over the past 20 years, some glue, and an ardent desire to express something in particular.<\/p>\n

Why did you want to make this work?<\/strong><\/p>\n

AKERBLOM: It just came to me (no pun intended) and I started it.<\/p>\n

What are you working on these days?<\/strong><\/p>\n

AKERBLOM:\u00a0I just finished a triptych on automobiles (one of my fetishes) and am trying to make collages that do not necessarily focus on one \u201ctheme\u201d, as well as humourous cut & pastes.<\/p>\n
