Hope Kroll and her husband, Gary, spent four years remodeling a barn on their property in Paso Robles, California, to be Kroll’s studio. Except for installing the electricity and water, Kroll participated in almost every aspect of the building, painting, staining, etc., so she is intimately connected with her studio.<\/p>\n

Under her working tables, she has nine archival cardboard storage boxes with six drawers each for a total of 54 drawers full of sorted precut and uncut images, each box is 19 1\/2\u201d long, 13\u201d deep and 18″ high, each drawer in 2 1\/2″ high.<\/p>\n

The shelves are filled with books from which Kroll has already gleaned materials and saved book covers for use as backgrounds for future collages. Also on the shelves are her collections of road kill, bird nests, snake skins and every other kind of animal part she finds around the studio and house.<\/h2>\n
