Spotlight on Collage Trading Card Artist Julie Henneberg<\/h2>\n

Originally from the small industrial village of Estevan, Saskatchewan in the Canadian prairies, Julie Henneberg studied Criticism and Curatorial Practice at OCAD University and Sociology at Lancaster University in 2015. She now lives and works in Belgium. She writes, “Since most of my images are based on symbols, especially those pertaining to ritual practices, I think it\u2019s interesting to make something with substance out of images that are typically quite superficial.”<\/p>\n

Henneberg is featured in Collage Artist Trading Cards Pack 7.<\/a><\/p>\n

Packs of Collage Artist Trading Cards are a tool for discovering contemporary, fine art collage. Each card is a full colour, 5.5\u201d x 3.5\u201d postcard with rounded corners. An example of an artist\u2019s work is on the front of the card and the artist\u2019s public contact information is on the back.<\/p>\n

We asked Henneberg some questions about her work.<\/p>\n

How do you describe yourself?<\/h2>\n

Yogi, artist, prairie kid, walking disaster.<\/p>\n

Can you explain the idea behind Study in Geometry #3<\/em>?<\/h2>\n

I was playing with basic shapes and trying to find interesting but simple arrangements.<\/p>\n

How do you make this work?<\/h2>\n

With paper and scissors, very simply.<\/p>\n

Why did you want to make this work?<\/h2>\n

At the time I was interested in symmetrical, static, balanced imagery. Now my work has more movement and less control.<\/p>\n

What are you working on these days?<\/h2>\n

I own a yoga therapy studio, and so yoga activities take up most of my spare time. My art practice remains a spontaneous activity. Sometimes I make a few images per month, and some months none at all.<\/p>\n
