Gwil Owen
Gwil Owen STATEMENT I work with scissors and glue, old magazines, books, and catalogues. I’m attracted to the feel and texture of very old paper and interested in exploring the conflict and symbiosis between man, machine, and the natural environment. BIO I first began making collages as a teenager, influenced by my parents’ books on Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray. This part of my life remained dormant and almost forgotten for over 30 years until an old friend asked me to make a CD cover for his latest project, titled My Moby Dick. This collage inspired me again and since then my work has been shown at several galleries around Nashville and featured in Nashville Arts magazine and The East Nashvillian. I’m also a musician and songwriter and have recently released a 12″ vinyl record in a limited edition of ten copies, each of which has a unique original collage cover.
