Hannah Barnard

My hands are always in the work—cutting, layering, and pasting—allowing me to feel fully embodied and present throughout its creation. I work primarily with found materials: vintage newspapers, magazines, and discarded prints sourced from local second-hand art stores. These forgotten fragments become the building blocks for new visual stories. Through color, texture, and layered composition, I explore themes of curiosity, transformation, and the emotional landscape of modern womanhood. Much of the imagery I use is intentionally abstract or indiscernible, inviting viewers to pause, wonder, and find their own meaning. My work reflects a personal journey of navigating the complexities of femininity—grappling with inherited generational patterns while carving space for autonomy and new ways of being. Against the backdrop of a shifting cultural and political climate, my art serves as both a personal archive and a quiet act of resistance.
