Holly-Dale Shapiro
Holly-Dale Shapiro STATEMENT My commercial graphic designs have displayed aesthetics based on the Bauhaus concepts. My artistic work is influenced by cubism and surrealism where I use disparate and sometimes irrational visual elements to reach an otherworldly realm. My artistic practice focuses on collages of landscape, portraiture and abstraction. The landscapes blend dissimilar locales into new vistas. I curate magazine pages, old books, assorted materials and recycled objects found on the street and organize them by texture and subject. Interior framing and composition offer an unexpected depth. The portraits juxtapose dreamlike figures offering emotional balance through placement. The abstracts are driven by a synchronicity of color and balance. I use linear patterns, forms of color and repetitive textures to guide the viewers’ eyes. Some pieces are pasted together, others I augment with artistic tools to enhance their depth, texture and perspective. In my antiquity, I am creating new environments without new technology. No helmet required. My goal and proposal is to form life-size three dimensional pieces where viewers can immerse themselves as they traverse the space to expand and challenge their imagination. At first they will see flowing images but then be surprised by the finer details. BIO Holly-Dale Shapiro was born in Chicago and received her BFA from Washington University, St. Louis.
