STATEMENT

As a multidisciplinary artist, I explore themes of identity, resilience, and transformation. Through collage, glass, wood, and metal, my work blends raw materials with modern techniques to reflect the coexistence of vulnerability and strength. Rooted in my Indigenous heritage and LGBTQ+ identity, my creations seek to inspire connection and celebrate diversity through powerful, symbolic expressions.

BIO

Julie Gagné grew up in the poor neighborhood of Saint-Paul in Saguenay, Quebec during the 1980s, where creating was necessary for self-expression and affirmation. From a young age, Julie knew she would be an artist, refusing to conform to the norms and conventions established by society.

After traveling the world and spending several years in the beautiful city of Quebec City, she chose to return to her native region, seeking to reconnect with her roots and nurture her creative spirit. Julie is a versatile artist for whom no challenge is too great when it comes to creating. Self-taught and instinctive, she has, over the years, mastered disciplines such as welding and woodworking, incorporating unconventional techniques and materials like fire, molten metal, hardwood, rusted metals, and concrete. It is with this unique approach that she founded her custom furniture and artistic lighting design company: Jee Art et Design. Naturally curious, Julie devotes much time to deepening the techniques that fuel her art. In her canvas works, she explores techniques like dripping, collage, as well as digital art and
photography.

Her work is inspired by rock and punk styles, as well as the “urban art” movement, influences that allow her to express her opinions on taboo subjects and manifest her non-conformist impulses. Julie is a bold creator who fears nothing. Her inner strength is reflected in her art, whether through her modern steel and burned wood furniture or in her paintings. Her creations exude undeniable power and character, a testament to her determined temperament. Always seeking growth, she continues to diversify her skills to create increasingly profound and authentic works.
