Laura Lein-Svencner
Laura Lein-Svencner STATEMENT Laura Lein-Svencner’s abstract mixed media collage works are combinations of symbolism, form, content and meaning. She is inspired by daily events, to walk in the woods, staying open emotional and spiritually as ideas play out like visual concerts. The paper’s edges, represented clean, raw and torn, are a reflection of life itself. Leaning heavily on design, they are a collage manifest composed of recycled papers, painted engineer plans, nautical maps, sheet music, old book pages, stained tissue papers, hand and machine stitched threads to the self-expressed gestural mark. Papers are coated for protection and the heat seal method of adhering without wet glue is formed with a tack iron. Layering and compiling the papers to a unified completed piece. BIO Laura Lein-Svencner grew up in Downers Grove and now resides in Darien, Illinois. She’s married with four grown children and a home full of loving creatures. Although she has studied drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and paper making, her love of paper keeps pulling her back to collage work. She is a signature member of the National Collage Society, co-founder of the Midwest Collage Society, which exhibits throughout the Midwest Chicagoland area. Her collages are represented at The Flying Pig Gallery in Algoma, Wisconsin. You might have seen a few of her collage works published in Incite 1, 2, and 3 from North Light Books, The Professional Artist Magazine, The Artist’s Magazine and The Watercolor Artist Magazine through the years. Laura has been teaching her collage techniques for the past 17 years. During the summer, you’ll find her exhibiting her work at art fairs and teaching collage workshops all around the Midwest region.
