STATEMENT

I consider collage an obsession of mine. I work primarily based on my own feelings, those that are widely considered “bad,” and use juxtaposing images to convey their beauty and the polarity between the range of all human emotions. Collecting vintage books and the hunt for them is a huge part of the process. The colours and imagery of old books, preferably from the 50s–80s, provide a sense of nostalgia that I love. Although highly personal, I often exclude parts of things and people in the collages, hoping to leave some of the narrative up to the viewer. I’m addicted to the way it feels to hold scissors and making even the tiniest cut, to glue sticks, and to the shadows created by layering of paper. It is a therapeutic way to process my own life, and an attempt to evoke a desire in others to enter the illusory, perhaps sometimes haunting, worlds I create.
