STATEMENT

With scissors, I cut and glue painted paper, deliberately breathing life into the ordinary and familiar by experimenting with layering, shadows, color, patterns, and subtle nuances of light and form. My process of creating a collage with painted paper is both spontaneous and intentional. As I apply multiple layers of paint to the paper, unexpected brush marks and textures emerge. The thickness of the paper develops a rhythm of edges as it is glued to the surface, enhancing the complexity of the composition. Working from the background to the foreground, I refine each detail until the desired result is achieved. Over the past year, I have introduced additional elements into my collages. Glass bead gel, pumice gel, magazine photos and text, and specialty papers. It is a very exciting direction. I’m looking forward to seeing what I create.
