Nikki Soppelsa
Nikki Soppelsa STATEMENT Collage unites a great part of what I love in my life–photography, collecting, paper. My photos of sky and headstones along with collected images of another time give names and stories, often with a humour darkly, to faces of women and children unknown. The scraps, too, take on form. The collage fragments speak of colour, composition and challenge. I prefer to work in small format, often in series along with the texture of traditional cut/paste. This art form allows me to place myself or anyone wherever I choose and takes me to the place I love most which is one of solitude. BIO Collage and mail artist in the U.S. A participant/contributor to ABAD (A Book About Death) exhibits worldwide. A frequent contributor to Art House Co-op projects in Brooklyn, New York, Soppelsa participated in “Fluxface in Space”, The 2010 Altered MailArt exhibit at Gallery KG52 in Stockholm, and recently donated a collage to The Ontological Museum (Pagosa Springs, Colorado) for an exhibition from the International Museum of Collage, Assemblage and Construction for the Collage Centennial 1912-2012.
