STATEMENT

My collage and mixed media work reflect themes of identity, dislocation, and serendipitous discovery. They are very much an outlet for both my observations of society, and personal searches for meaning and truth.

For me, the process of creation is also a process of discovery; arranging pre-existing materials in a way that makes the viewer, and myself, think in a new way. This is why the art of collage has appealed so much to me, as it brings life to images that perhaps would have otherwise gone unnoticed. In this way, the art of collage is also a way of questioning how we view, process, and identify the world around us.

I enjoy experimenting with various materials in my work. Most recently, I have been drawn to the tactility and meticulous detail of embroidery. This, combined with my interest in design and geometry, brings a new direction to my collage work that I hope to continue to develop and challenge.

BIO

I graduated from the University of Hartford in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in web design, and I currently work at an independent school in Connecticut. I have always loved art, and my interest in collage began in high school through the art of altered books – I was taken by the idea of transforming an existing object into something entirely new.

I am currently represented by The Opening contemporary art gallery in Los Angeles, California. While I have only exhibited my work locally, I am constantly awed by the power social media has in sharing and promoting one’s artwork globally. I try to utilize sites such as Tumblr, Twitter and Flickr to share my work, and get a feel for how others respond.
