Happiness to Go

Happiness to Go

by Susanna Lakner

Originally from Budapest, Hungary, Susanna Lakner studied typography at the Academy of Applied Arts (today the Moholy-Nagy University). She was introduced to collage as an 11-year-old at an international Children’s Art Exhibition. The technique made an immediate and lasting impression on her.

She worked for several years as a packaging designer. She moved to Stuttgart, Germany with her husband in 1989. Under the name Planet Susannia, she entered the Mail Art Network in 1995. From 2000-2017, she published and edited the mail art assemblage magazine 22.

Lakner prefers the cut-and-paste technique and makes found-object assemblages, artist books, and artistamps. The Papertailor of Susannia, her first collection of collages, was published by Reed Altemus’ Tonerworks in 2011. Venus and Mars, with text by Bernd Reichert, was published by Artemisz in Sopron, Hungary in 2013. Her self-published collaboration with Stefan Horst, Anleitung zur Ersten Hilfe bei Unfällen, was published in 2017 and was featured in the Collage Taxonomy article, “Collage Play” in Kolaj #21.
